Join the fws communications team in helping to tell the world about the organisation’s projects and achievements through our quarterly e-newsletter “gimme shelter”. 
 
This position is dedicated to the content creation and production of the newsletter. This will be your baby from sourcing stories and images through to building it in MailChimp and final publication. The MailChimp templates are set up so you can hit the ground running with handover and ongoing support from the current team.
 
As this is a multi-pronged role, we are very open to this being a shared project between several volunteers.

responsibilities

  • Source copy and photos for stories from the fws team in Australia, USA and Tanzania. 
  • Edit copy into well-written entertaining, engaging and informative stories.
  • Adhere to the gimme shelter production schedule as written each year.
  • Liaise with communications manager, web content editor and social media teams to co-ordinate rollout of stories across the various communications channels. This includes supplying extended news stories to web content editor for posting on website, with teaser links from gimme shelter.
  • Ensure availability during peak production and delivery periods.
  • Determine changes required or make suggestions surrounding the template design and liaise with communications team.

key performance indicators

  • Publication of four e-newsletters per year to scheduled deadlines.
  • Each edition has a good mix of news that keeps our support base well informed and involved in our projects, combined with calls to participate in the organisation.
  • Work with comms manager in ensuring the e-newsletter is reflective of the organisation.
  • Showing a willingness to make suggestions for improvements to the newsletter’s design and content.

  • Excellent writing and subediting skills
  • Experience using MailChimp
  • Experience of preparing images for web/email
  • Team player and good communicator
