Job Description:
We require a qualified subeditor to fact check, spell check, punctuate, style and format our various documents and means of communication, including:
* the
fws website,
* the
fws e-newsletter, Gimme Shelter,
*
fws information documents,
*
fws reports,
*
fws grants, and
*
fws marketing material, which could be anything from
fws t-shirts,
fws canvas bags, posters, pamphlets, event invitations, fundraiser flyers, and more.
The
fws communications subeditor will also enjoy not only using
fws’ current communications style guide to whip our various documents into line, but also updating it regularly.
Liaise with:
• Primarily with
fws president, Rebecka, but also with
fws board members, Kelsey, Edwina, Anne and Shona.
• From time to time, the
fws communications subeditor may liaise with
fws grant or report writers, or individuals fundraising for
fws.
Time:
3 hours per week on average, but on weeks where the
fws team has a document due, perhaps longer. That said, the
fws team likes to plan for deadlines, rather than crash them in, so we should be able to keep your time down to an average of three hours per week.
Term:
Ideally, we’re after someone willing to commit to a 12-month posting, but we’d like you to stay even longer!
Location:
From home.
Skills:
1. Excellent subediting and proofreading skills to confidently work with
fws volunteers to ensure their copy is perfectly correct, succinct and carries the
fws tone and values.
2. An eye for detail that puts vultures to shame – the finickier you are, the more we want you for this role. Finally feel at home with your knit-picking! There were two spelling mistakes in point number 2, did you get them?
3. A love of energetic words and colourful phrases (that don’t necessarily include swear words!)
4. An ability to work to deadlines.
Like to ensure the
fws team’s visual communications look and sound as clever as the
fws team like to think they themselves are?
